Este método trata de poner de manifiesto la parte reprimida del “ello”, gracias a la toma de contacto con elinconsciente del individuo, mediante interpretación de los sueños, estados hipnóticos y los actos fallidos. De esta manera, el psicoanálisis da un gran valor a las primeras etapas de la ontogenia delindividuo ( su desarrollo como tal ), haciendo descansar sobre ellas el origen de una sexualidad conflictiva, causante de las patologías psíquicas. Para Freud, el psiquismo humano estaba formado por unaparte consciente llamada consciencia o “yo”, bajo las que se situarían los hechos psíquicos conscientes, aquellos de los que nos damos cuenta y caen bajo el control de nuestra consciencia.
